eating in...

when we went to visit my sister last weekend, instead of eating out, we made her cook for us.  she prepared tonkatsudon and it was deeeelicious.  honestly, better than any restaurant katsudon i've tried.

at my hubby's request and armed with my sister's reci, i attempted making it last night.  which brings me to my first blog goal (of many): take better pictures!  the ones taken last night were all from a phone...  anyway, i think my sister's still tastes better, i think it's funny how you can follow the same recipe, but somehow it always seems to come out different.  but the hubby gave it his thumbs up, so i think it was a success (yay!).

tomorrow is vday and we have no plans of going to some fancy schmancy resto for dindin.  hubby will be cooking.  some people may think that's boring and oh so unromantic.  but not us.  we've been out to chichi restos for vday before, and at least for us, the experience is the farthest thing from romantic.  you have to wait forever (we've waited for over an hour before) even with a ressie. you have no choice in food, really, because usually there's a set menu.  the food also takes forever to come out.  i'm not really sure why because when it does come out, it's always cold, as if it had already been pre-prepared and was just sitting there.  service is never good...

maybe we just happened to pick the wrong restos, but for the past few years, we have just decided to stay home and one of us cooks or both of us prepare the meal together.  sooo much more enjoyable.  ;)
